mushrooms is a product line developed by Myco-Nexus, a functional mushroom company. Co-founded by Omoanghe Isikhuemhen, Ph.D ( Dr. Omon) – Professor of Fungal Biotechnology and a global leader in cultivating and using functional mushrooms to promote health and well-being.
grew out of a collective passion for sharing the wellness properties of functional mushrooms through the development of mushroom-infused products. Our company desires to promote healthy lifestyles, consuming mushrooms and supplements as a regular part of the human daily diet! We also want to care for our world as we research ways to help remediate environmental degradation..
In 2019, a vision was developed by Dr. Omon and Ross Steckley to create a business in Ontario since the region was ripe for the functional mushroom industry. Our team was brought together, and the vision was realized as myco-nexus Inc. was born in 2022.
myco-nexus is the name that defines our vision and mission for the business. "Myco" refers to mycology, the study of fungi, and originates from the Greek word "mukēs" for fungus. "Nexus" refers to a connection or link between things and comes from the Latin word "nectere" which means to bind. We believe that all living things on this planet are interconnected. The mycelium root structure of fungi is a meaningful image for us as we find new ways of harmonizing people, cultures, and creations. Our more profound understanding of mushrooms will help us to deepen our awareness of ourselves as a species.
Dr. Omon has been researching mushrooms for over 4 decades and wants to share that knowledge, understanding, and benefits with people worldwide. Not only can our overall health improve, but growing mushrooms can also provide a sustainable source of income for people in many struggling parts of the world, just as Dr. Omon has helped families in small villages in Africa provide for themselves.
